Nikaido Motoyuki (二階堂基行)

Motoyuki NIKAIDO (二階堂 基行, 1198 - November 17, 1240) was a governmental official responsible for practical works of the bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) in the mid Kamakura period. He was a son of Yukimura NIKAIDO, and served as Hyojoshu (a member of Council of State). He had brothers such as Yukiyosi NIKAIDO, Yukihisa NIKAIDO, Yukikata NIKAIDO, and Koreyuki NIKAIDO. His government post was Saemon no jo (Third-ranked Officer of the Left Division of Outer Palace Guards), and his homyo (a Buddhist name given to a person who has died or has entered the priesthood) after becoming a priest was Gyoa. His first name was also put as "元行" (Motoyuki).

He was appointed as Jito (manager and lord of manor) of Masuda no sho (manor in medieval Japan). On February 20, 1219, he became a priest with his father.
